Mountain Gorilla Coffee Tours: From Bean to Cup
Discover the rich aroma and deep roots of Uganda’s highland coffee culture through our Mountain Gorilla Coffee Tour — a fully immersive, community-based experience that takes you behind the scenes of coffee growing in the scenic hills of Kisoro.
This tour isn’t just about tasting coffee — it’s about walking the journey of the bean, meeting the farmers who grow it, and understanding the traditions and challenges behind every cup.
What to Expect on the Tour
Your experience begins on the slopes where Arabica coffee thrives at high altitudes, nourished by volcanic soil and misty mountain air. Guided by local farmers, you’ll gain insight into the entire process — from cultivation to consumption.
Coffee Plantation Walk
Stroll through coffee gardens with stunning views of the Virunga volcanoes. Learn how seedlings are planted, shaded, and nurtured using indigenous techniques passed down for generations.
Harvesting & Processing
Participate in hand-picking ripe red cherries, and witness traditional processing methods including pulping, fermenting, washing, and sun-drying the beans.
Hulling & Roasting
Visit small-scale processing stations where beans are hulled, sorted, and roasted — sometimes over open fire — creating the rich, earthy aroma unique to Kisoro-grown coffee.
Grinding & Brewing
Try your hand at grinding coffee the traditional way and enjoy a fresh cup prepared on-site — strong, flavorful, and full of character.
Meet the Farmers
Engage with passionate local coffee growers, many of whom are part of cooperative groups working to uplift their communities through fair trade and sustainable farming.
